WHO ARE WE?

The NWT Seniors' Society is a non-profit group established in 1983.

The Society provides information and acts as a resource for seniors and elders across the NWT. The Society is the only voluntary agency representing the individual and collective interests of all seniors and elders in the NWT. A senior or elder is defined as anyone 60 years of age or older.

The Society is also made up of member organizations representing the interests of seniors throughout the NWT. The Board of Directors consists of representatives from various NWT communities appointed from the community.

The NWT Seniors' Society provides:

• an Advisory Committee which supports and guides government and communities on policy development, programs and services; and
• a newsletter, periodically throughout the year.

OUR MISSION

To ensure seniors have dignity, independence, participation, fairness and security within the community.

Principles
Principles guide the actions by which the Mission will be achieved:

• Dignity means being treated with respect, regardless of the situation, giving a sense of self-esteem.
• Independence means being in control of one's life.
• Participation means being involved, staying active, and taking part.
• Fairness means having needs considered equally with others.
• Security means having adequate income in a safe and supportive environment.
