NWT Elder Abuse Awareness Week

This week coincides with Senior Citizens' Week in the NWT.

Arctic Ambassador Program

The Arctic Ambassador Program is the flagship program of NWT Seniors’ Society which encourages seniors to participate in their communities and be leaders in providing a valuable service to the travelling public. The program will be expanding into the communities of Fort Smith and Hay River in the near future.

Elders In Motion

NWT Seniors’ Society is a supporter and advocate of the “Elders in Motion” program. The program is lead by the NWT Recreation and Parks Association in partnership with the Dene Nation and the GNWT Health and Social Services.

Youth and Seniors Literacy Project

The NWT Seniors' Society, in partnership with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment's Literacy Strategy funds youth and seniors literacy events across the NWT.

Seniors' Information Line

The Seniors’ Information Line is the only “elder abuse line” currently operating in the NWT and is a resource to older adults, service providers, caregivers and family. The Line is available during working hours by calling 1-800 661-0878 or 867-920-7444.

Community Outreach

The Society is committed to reaching out to communities to do workshops on a variety of issues. Topics may include older adult abuse, health and social programs, housing, active living as well as to assist in the establishment of seniors or elders groups or societies or support networks.

Information Highways

The Society runs Information Highways across the NWT to raise awareness of the services and resources available to seniors.
