Objectives
The NWT Seniors' Society established the following objectives during a strategic planning workshop in February, 2010
IndependenceTo support more NWT seniors and elders living independently in their own homes. |
Health BenefitsTo maintain the existing level of health benefits available to seniors in the NWT. |
Abuse of Older AdultsTo eliminate the Abuse of Older Adults in the NWT. |
|
The Society continues to work to ensure seniors and elders can remain independent as long as possible in their own homes. The Board of Directors and Staff Team are committed to conducting cost- benefit research to build the case for supporting seniors in their own homes including seniors living in public housing units with a younger family member. |
The Society is committed to continuing to work with the Government of the Northwest Territories to find appropriate, mutually beneficial solutions to maintain the current health benefits for seniors in the NWT. |
The Society is committed to working with communities and seniors and elders groups and committees to offer community-based elder abuse workshops by working with community organizations more closely. |
LifestyleTo encourage more seniors and elders to live active, healthy lifestyles. |
Support GroupsTo encourage and support community based seniors and elders groups. |
Enhance CapacityTo enhance the capacity of the NWT Seniors’ Society. |
|
The Society is committed to providing opportunities through recreational and healthy lifestyle choices, to reduce chronic health conditions, lower public and personal health care costs and have more seniors and elders taking part in active living programs. |
The Society will continue to encourage the formation of seniors and elders groups and committees in all NWT communities. With a stronger network, all seniors and elders voices will be better able to advocate for funding, subsidy programs and other services which will provide greater support at the community level and throughout the territory. |
The Board of Directors and Staff Team are committed to being proactive rather than reactive on key seniors and elders issues. |
